#MondayMotivation #inspiration #selfimprovement #motivation

Motivation. Its a word used numerous times a daily and is a big part of life. What does it mean though? How does it affect our lives?

Business Dictionary defines Motivation as ' Internal and external factors that stimulate desire and energy in people to be continually interested and committed to a job, role or subject, or to make an effort to attain a goal.' This written definition might be accurate enough for some but what does mean to you? I think of motivation as a strong feeling of desire. The strong desire of wanting something and you are focused on getting it.

Why should we have motivation?

There are many reasons why we should have motivation but here are 6 common reasons to.

  1. Purpose- To have a sense of purpose in your life! Give you a nudge to achieve that goal you want.

  2. Productivity- To help us increase our productivity. If we are motivated to do something we achieve more.

  3. Self satisfaction- To give yourself a sense of satisfaction. When we are motivated to do a goal and achieve it, we are proud of ourselves for achieving that.

  4. Focus- Similar to purpose, if we have motivation to achieve or do something it keeps us focused.

  5. Setback- If you have suffered a recent setback, motivating yourself to do something else with help take your mind off that setback.

  6. Confidence- Motivation helps us to build our confidence and perseverance. If we are motivated we feel confident in our decisions and the way we act, because we have a goal to work towards.

12 ways to get motivation.

Motivation can be hard to find, especially if you are going through a tough time or like me, your mental health isn't perfect. Having Anxiety and depression, motivation is hard for me to find, even on my bad days I struggle to find the motivation to get out of bed.

There are many ways you can motivate yourself, you just have to find the right ways for you. Here are just some ideas to get you started...

  • Set yourself achievable goals

  • Remind yourself why you are doing the things you are to achieve the thing you want. Say you are training to be a nurse/ doctor. you are having a rough day and want to give it up, DON'T. Remind yourself why you started in the first place. What motivated you to take this path.

  • Break down big tasks into small step by step ones to make your task or goal more achievable.

  • Reward yourself! When you have achieved your goal reward yourself for your persistence.

  • Self care! Remember not to over do it and burn yourself out. Look after your own health and well being too.

  • Self affirmations- Remind yourself that you can do this, you are more than capable, you got this.

  • Positive quotes- Print out or save some motivational quotes that stand out to you. They help keep you motivated when things get tough.

  • Reflect- During or after progress reflect on how things are going. Are they going well? If not, what action can you take to improve the situation?

  • Reduce distractions- Life is full of distractions, as much as it will be tough letting go. Get rid or reduce down your distractions that you have around you, they will only slow you down and make you procrastinate.

  • Create a confidence boost playlist- Songs that make you feel good, songs that motivate you, songs that get your blood pumping!

  • Take breaks, don't burn yourself out.

  • Talk to your friends and family- Get them on board to help encourage you.

“Desire is the key to motivation, but it’s determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal – a commitment to excellence – that will enable you to attain the success you seek.”
